Portable Appliance Testing
Having worked within the Canary Wharf campus for a number of years, we were appointed to carry out the testing of portable appliances over 31 floors of head office space. With 40,000 plus items of kit to test this presented not only an accessibility issue but also a strict procedure in failed items, replacement of failed items to enable business operation and finally the collation and storage of results and documentation.
After in depth meetings with user managers and with the backing of the incumbent maintenance contractor, we were able to take control of the whole process inclusive of;
- Co-ordination meetings
- Notification of staff
- Risk assessments and method statements
- Access and security
- Testing and security attendance
- Collation of results and certificates
- Replacement of faulty kit
- Storage of record documentation.
After the successful completion of a phased programme of works we have been able to build an inventory of equipment in the building, typical failure rates and weaknesses in any particular components. This has helped with the setting of dates for next inspection along with the control and programming of future works.
This process is now being adopted by a number of our clients who are looking for a complete turnkey package of items ACTUALLY tested and the safe control of this.
