Custom Meeting Room Tables

After moving into newly refurbished Canary Wharf offices in 2018, Metropolitan quickly outgrew the space and single meeting room.

The business sourced another property adjacent to the main offices. This was transformed into a suite of three custom meeting rooms with kitchen and toilet facilities.

Each meeting room was named according to the company’s core ethos:

  • Passion
  • Pride
  • Excellence

These unique rooms all required tables of bespoke sizes to obtain a perfect balance between space and functionality.

The Metropolitan solution

The joinery team set to work on the project, consulting with the management and IT teams on a list of requirements to cover every eventuality.

Installing the tables required advance planning. We factored this into the design due to access restrictions and transportation requirements. Some assembly and finishing work would need to be completed on-site.

Passion:

The Passion meeting room table is a unique and bespoke table 3850mm long x 1550mm wide. It is held up by four 90mm x 90mm legs and has a central oak veneer containment box for power and data ports to enable . The top of the table is so large it had to be assembled in situ ready for spraying. The top received five coats of hard-wearing polyurethane lacquer, which will stand up to hard work for years to come.

Pride:

The table for the Pride meeting room is 1800mm x 1000mm and seats six. The tops are made from 26mm oak veneer MDF with veneer edgings. The tops’ corners are softened by a 50mm radius. The legs are made from 90mm x 90mm solid oak, which were fixed to a framework and then attached to the underside of the table top. The tables were sprayed with a hard-wearing 30 per cent-sheen PU lacquer.

Excellence:

The table for the Excellence meeting room is 1000mm x 1000mm and seats four. The tops were made from 26mm oak veneer MDF with veneer edgings. Like the Pride table, the tops’ corners are softened with a 50mm radius. The legs are made from 90mm x 90mm solid oak, which were fixed to a framework and then attached to the underside of the table top. We also applied a a hard-wearing PU lacquer with a 30% Sheen to this table.

This is an impressive project by Metropolitan’s Joinery Department – the tables will be seen and used by many clients and employees over their lifespan.
