Brief
Following our lifecycle plant replacement report in 2017, we produced a capex plan for our client to replace their critical plant over the next ten years. The client had the added complication of some equipment only being fed from a single source and all disruptions needing to be kept to a minimum.
Solution
Metropolitan carried out initial design verification works to confirm loadings on each incoming transformer. This was used to determine feasibility, and produce a new proposed building schematic before developing a phasing strategy for the temporary feeding of single source equipment. We ensured that this temporary supply could be re-used as a permanent secondary supply once the infrastructure was in place. We then designed the new panel for installation and built a new switch room locally to the existing panel location, including all new life safety systems. A splitter panel was introduced to enable us to keep both the old and the new panel live whilst systematically transferring the load. Once all loads had been transferred, the old panel was removed from service and disposed of responsibly. The client was very happy with the end result and we hope to be securing phase 3 in the coming weeks.
