The St Patrick's Day Parade in London is a huge calendar event for the Irish community and for the British and Irish Trade Affiliation (BITA).

The event is meticulously planned months in advance, in conjunction with the Lord Mayor of London, with each parade representing a new thematical style. This year, the theme chosen was ‘the environment’ — with a particular emphasis on green energy.

BITA’s contribution to the procession was a characterful Horse and Cart, a modern electric vehicle and a wooden truck operated purely by human muscle power; the latter being built by Metropolitan’s joinery workshop.

The colourful truck had some fantastic people on board, and alongside it strode recognised-athletes from Hurling, Gaelic Football, Rugby and Athletics — all demonstrating clean energy interests and passions.

The interest in the truck was immense: BITA was approached on the day requesting it be used in schools and other venues to demonstrate and recognise the importance of clean energy, and the positive effect it can have on our planet.
